thanksgiving recipe

After the success of my entry on easy summer recipes (thanks to Google, it was my most visited entry throughout the summer), I thought I would try another recipe entry. Here in the U.S., next Thursday is Thanksgiving, and the following is my favorite holiday dish, believe it or not. Here's what I'd like you to do: post your own favorite recipe on your blog and TrackBack to this entry or post it here in the comments.

Carrots and Turnips

  • 2 pounds carrots, chopped
  • 1.5 pounds turnips, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons butter (or to taste)
  • salt

Cook the carrots and turnips in salted boiling water until soft. Drain the vegetables and put them in a large bowl with the butter. Mash them as you would potatoes. Enjoy!

Updated 11/27 6:50 p.m.: As an added bonus, here's L's cranberry sauce recipe:

  • cranberries
  • water
  • turbinado sugar
  • creme de cassis
  • orange zest
  • candied orange rind
  • cinnamon
  • allspice

L has no specific amounts for anything but provides these directions. Dissolve the sugar in boiling water. Throw the cranberries in with the other stuff. Cook the cranberries until they pop and get mushy. When it all cools, you've got cranberry sauce.

Now that I think about it, you're probably going to want to add a lot more than three tablespoons of butter to the carrots and turnips. Just go nuts. It's a holiday. Throw in as much as you want!

Thanks for the turnips and carrots recipe-I can never remember the ratio and it's one of my favorites!!
