argh!
Does anyone remember how to convince Microsoft Word not to underline email addresses or URLs? Every time I reinstall this program I have to hunt and hunt and hunt for the option that turns this off.

You're using it on a Mac, yes? Mine (Word 2004) is Tools -- Auto-Correct -- Auto-Format -- uncheck Replace Internet Paths with Hyperlinks. And ALSO you have to uncheck the same thing in Auto-Format As You Type.

You might already have some replies waiting for you, but here's another just in case. The option is under Tools -> Autocorrect Options-- and from there, you actually have to turn it off in *two* places. The "AutoFormat" tab has a checkbox labeled "Internet and Network Paths with hyperlinks" that you need to turn off, and the "AutoFormat as you type" tab (don't ask me how they're differet) has a similar checkbox.
Note that this is for the Windows version of MS Word 2003 ... older versions or Macintosh versions may use slightly different language, but the concept should be similar enough.

It's under Tools > AutoCorrect... In the AutoFormat and AutoFormat As You Type tabs, uncheck "Internet paths with hyperlinks." It's one of the most annoying "features" of Word. That and the automatic numbered and bulleted lists.
